Smyrna is a benzoin resin that has undergone special processing (purification and remelting). It is a piece of a homogeneous gray mass interspersed with white areas and has a pleasant tart aroma due to the presence of vanillin, cinnamon and (in some varieties) benzoic acids in it. Benzoin resin is obtained by incisions in the trunk and branches of the styrax tree (Styrax benzoin), which grows wild and is bred in Southeast Asia and on the islands of the Malay Archipelago.Size 12 x 6 x 12 cm.
